Jamboree On The Air 2014
18th-19th October 2014
Banbury Amateur Radio Society, Banbury
Our Group is taking part in the International Jamboree On The Air (JOTA) over the weekend 18th-19th October. This event is for Beavers, Cubs & Scouts to talk on the air with the help of radio amateurs and their equipment to other Beavers, Cubs & Scouts all over the world.
Banbury Amateur Radio Society (BARS), including our Assistant Scout Leader Tom Haley and our Chairman Ron Sangster, both Amateur Radio operators, will be operating a special station with the special call sign GB0SBG on behalf of 7th Banbury Scout Group.
Scouts, Cubs and Beavers will be allowed to talk to others all over the world. We will be confirming these conversations by sending cards, called QSL cards, to the other stations. We have let the International Jamboree organisation know we will be ‘on the air’ during this weekend.
In addition we will have slow scan television which allows us to send cards all over the world; competitions and maps and electronic maps on computers to flag and locate where in the world the stations are; to get the greatest distance, and to add all these distances up in a world competition. We will have morse buzzers for you to learn and test your morse skills; an S Band receiver (like a radar screen) to show all the aircraft flying overhead with all their details, and as we are under a flight path, to go outside and look up and see that aircraft.
We will meet at the BARS clubhouse in the garden of 169 Bloxham Road, the workshops of FR Humphris electronic engineers. Days and times will be decided by each section, so ask your leaders for more information.
Please bring sandwiches for meals and any drinks you want. We will be making Tea, Coffee and squash.
